<\/a>Jeannie Brice from our Spencers Wood Local History Group then read out a poem called \u201cGod\u2019s Lent Child<\/em>\u201d. The feedback was so warm that we have taken the liberty of reproducing it here, in full.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God\u2019s Lent Child<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019ll lend you for a little while, a child of mine, God said<\/span> He\u2019ll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief<\/span> I\u2019ve looked this whole world over in my search for teachers true<\/span> Now will you give him all your love and not think the labour vain,<\/span> I fancy that I heard them say \u201cDear God, thy will be done.<\/span> We will shelter him with tenderness, we\u2019ll love him while we may<\/span> ~ Author Unknown<\/p>\n Beatrice then said a little \u00a0about the children of Ryeish Green and we remembered each of them one by one \u2013<\/p>\n Gail Tildesley, John Taylor, Lorraine Denton, William Mearns, Simon Coster and Robert Jones.<\/p>\n We also remembered the teachers Richard Turner and Maureen Galloway.<\/p>\n All of them will have memorials in the churchyard.<\/p>\n Margaret Bampton, from the History group, then read from the New English Bible. \u00a0An extract \u00a0from The Gospel according to St Mark, chapter 10, verses 14-1: \u201cHe said to them, \u201cLet the children come to me; do not try to stop them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you,<\/em><\/p>\n whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like child, will never enter it.\u201d And he put his arms around them, laid his hands upon them, and blessed them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Beatrice then completed the service with an Address and the Lord\u2019s Prayer, before we sang \u201cGive me oil in my lamp\u201d, and we all left the church for her to bless the actual plaques, and a plant of remembrance was placed.<\/p>\n Our group would like extend their gratitude, although many people have supported making the service possible, in particular to Lesley Somerville, David Maloney, Anne Luckhurst, John Veale, the ex-pupils who came, those from the resource centre, and of course the Reverend Beatrice Pearson.<\/p>\n Thank You.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The day dawned bright on the Saturday morning of the Memorial Service. \n For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he\u2019s dead.<\/span>
\n It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three<\/span>
\n But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?<\/span><\/p>\n
\n You\u2019ll always have his memories as a solace in your grief.<\/span>
\n I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return, <\/span>
\n But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.<\/span><\/p>\n
\n And from the folk that crowd Life\u2019s lane I have chosen you.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a>
\n Nor hate me when I come to take this lent child back again?<\/span><\/p>\n
\n For all the joys this child will bring the risk of grief we\u2019ll run.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a>
\n And for all the happiness we\u2019ve ever known, we\u2019ll ever grateful stay.<\/span>
\n But should the angels call him much sooner than we\u2019d planned<\/span>
\n We will brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/a>
